Author: Lamlela Plaatjie

Following an ancestral call to reconnect with her biocultural heritage, Lamlela pivoted her career trajectory from corporate social responsibility work with social enterprises toward more environment focused research as a freelance consultant. This inspired enrolment for a second Master’s degree in Environment, Society and Sustainability at the University of Cape Town in 2025. Resisting epistemic violence through transformative academic practices is the directive assigned to her by Spirit. Lamlela’s research interests encompass Indigenous research, medicinal plants, biocultural heritage, society-nature connections and exploring creative methods. Currently she is exploring clay as a conduit to communicate messages from Spirit through sacred ceramics that connect humans with each other and nature beyond time-space boundaries.
